On Sept 26 the first batch of Avior Senior Officers graduated the 6-day renewed Management Leadership Development Program (MLDP). The program is developed by Avior Academy and Avior Principal Seatrade as part of Officers behavioral training. The renewed MLDP is developed around the Avior Standard, the expected standard of operations.
As Seatrade's Crewing Manager Kor Wormmeester explains the new MLDP will be part of three level of courses all Officers will have to undergo.
The first level "Basic MLDP" for junior Officers aspiring to become senior Officers provides an introduction to management and leadership skills for Management Level Positions on board and ashore.
The next level will be the "Intermediate MLDP" which is all about applying those skills in achieving and maintaining the Avior Standard of Operations. This is the level we conducted last week.
Finally there will be the "Advanced MLDP" which is a five day Marine Crew Resource Management (MCRM) training which focusses on the Human Element Leadership and Management at Management Level. This course is conducted in co-operation with Oxford Aviation Academy (UK) and is accredited by the UK flagstate and DNV as proof of cometence in the use of leadership management skills as set out in the STCW code Tables A-11/2 and A-111/2. The course focuses on applying those skills in emergencies.
Capt Wormmeester concludes that with those three courses we are ahead of most of the industry in terms of assisting our Officers in their development and preparing them for the responsible tasks that await them on board. Avior Academy has been instrumental in the development and facilitation of those courses.
