In May the final selection rounds for the Avior Cadet Program wee concluded. In total fifty one cadets were selected from schools in Iloilo, Bacolod and Palompon for service on board ships of participating Avior Principals.
The last cadets were selected at the Palompon Institute of Technology where all graduating cadets had to pas the exams organized by the Shipping and Transport College of Rotterdam. All cadets that manage to pass the STC administered exams will be presented to Dutch Shipowners Representatives. Also this year a total of 68 deck and 67 engine cadets were selected out of a total of 165 cadets who passed the STC exams.
The selection process is the same for all cadets and consists of the so called "Avior Common Sense" test where candidates have to solve or analyse straight forward issues under time pressure, and an interview focussed on the personality and interests of the cadet.
All Avior cadets will first undergo regimentation and review at the Palompon Institute of Technology in Leyte after which they will undergo training in Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF). Medical First Aid (MEFA) and Proficiency in Survival and Rescue Boats (PSCRB) before moving to Manila for further in house training, medical check up and Processing their documents. It is expected that the first cadets of the 2015 batch are ready to join as of July.
